We have a mini-rotary kiln that can be completely sealed. The tube can be mild steel (optionally lined with a thermal ceramic spray coating), stainless steel, or quartz. All of these can be baffled if required.

KPM has both HCl and chlorine gas in-line. With our caustic scrubber, we have run large scale chlorination trials over 24 hours.

KPM has its own ICP and AA for chemical analysis. This allows us to rapidly turn around results so that project timelines can be minimized. We can have equipment for oxide tritration analyses, water analysis by Karl-Fischer, and hydrogen evolution. Other analyses, such as SEM, XRD, and microprobe are contracted out to Queen's with rapid turn around.

KPM has a state-of-the-art potentiostat that we use for a variety of electrochemical measurements, material characterization, and process definition work.

KPM has access to a TGA for small samples, but also has a custom built larger 100g thermogravimetric analyzer that can be used to investigate reactions as they are happening. As well, gas from these reactions can be analyzed during the reaction and the equipment can handle corrosive gases coming from the sample.

DTA can also be performed simultaneously with TGA. This identifies phase changes (melting, boiling, crystal change) in samples. As well, we have built a pressure DTA that can operate with up to 3 grams to 800C at 25 atm. pressure.

KPM has significant experience in design and construction of custom reactors for air tight systems. These can be water cooled if temperartures demand it.

KPM has glove boxes routinely used to store, and manipulate our sensitive reactants, samples, and materials.

A 3000 sq. ft. pilot bay is available for pilot demonstrations.

A 1000 sq. ft. dedicated machine shop is on site for rapid construction and repair of equipment. Custom equipment for clients is also available.
